Former Manchester City defender victim of vicious robbery

Argentine defender Nicolas Otamendi was reportedly attacked by four assailants at his home on Monday (December 13) morning. The defender was attacked at his home and became victim of a robbery. Otamendi’s current club Benfica informed about this painful incident in an official statement. 

 

According to reports, the robbers entered the 33-year-old defender's home and was assaulted by four attackers who then placed a belt around his neck in order to force him to follow their instructions. The robbery reportedly took place at the Argentine international's home at the south of Portuguese capital Lisbon. The Benfica defender featured in his team’s 4-1 victory against Famalicao on Sunday. 

 

“Sport Lisboa-e-Benfica confirms that their player Nico Otamendi was the victim of a robbery at his home during the early hours of this Monday," the club statement read.

 

"The athlete and the family are doing well, despite the enormous discomfort caused by the situation they are experiencing. Benfica calls for the privacy of the player and his family to be respected by the media, while awaiting the conduct of investigations initiated by the authorities."

 

The former Manchester City defender is currently in his second season at the Portuguese club. He has played 55 games for Benfica till now. In 2020 he arrived in Portugal from English side Manchester City. The defender will be poised to prove his worth in coming days as his team will face Juventus in the R16 of Champions League after overseeing Barcelona in the group stage.
