Lionel Messi to make his last PSG appearance this week, confirms manager Christophe Galtier

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) manager Christophe Galtier has confirmed that Lionel Messi will end his two-year association with the French club. Messi  joined PSG in 2021 after his golden era of 21 years ended with Barcelona as a result of financial issues at the club.

Galter said ahead of PSG's final Ligue 1 match of the season against Clermont: "I had the privilege of coaching the best player in the history of football. This will be his last match at the Parc des Princes, and I hope that he will receive the warmest of welcomes.”

The Argentinean world champion had a great season with PSG scoring 21 goals and 21 assists as well. Messi along with star-studded duo of Neymar and Mbappe helped PSG to win Ligue 1 titles in both seasons he played. Overall the seven-time Ballon d’OR winner scored 32 goals in 74 games for the French club along with 35 assists.

The only shortfall in Messi’s time at PSG was the back-to-back round of 16 exits from the Champions League which led to an extended wait for a first European title.

Controversial unauthorised trip

In the recent weeks he had also faced some criticism from fans. Messi has a commercial contract with Saudi Arabia to promote tourism, for which he travelled there, but it turned out an unauthorised trip and the legend was suspended for the same.

In Messi’s defence the PSG manager said, “This year, he has been an important part of the team, always available. I don’t think any of the comments or criticisms are justified. He’s always been there for the team. It’s been a great privilege to accompany him throughout the season.”

Messi's last PSG appearance

Messi will be seen in PSG colors for one last time this weekend. PSG will face Clermont on Sunday, June 4.

There have been speculations around Lionel’s future club and where will he play next but there have not been any confirmations either from any club or the player himself.
