Highlights:

Liverpool defeat Southampton 3-1 in the Premier League.

Mohamed Salah converted two penalties to become third in the list for all-time scorers for Liverpool with 242 goals.

Salah also equaled Manchester City's legend, Sergio Aguero's tally of 184 goals in the Premier League.

The Egyptian King in the form of Mohamed Salah continued his impressive form this Premier League season as Liverpool managed to recover from an early jolt and secure a 3-1 win over Southampton at Anfield. The Reds found themselves on the backfoot courtesy to a Will Smallbone's first half opener for the last placed Saints.Β

But, Liverpool recovered in the second half, all thanks to Darwin Nunez who equalized before earning a penalty that Salah converted to put them ahead. Then in the 87th minute, Salah once again netted his second penalty to reach the figure of 32 goals in all competitions. This victory takes Liverpool closer to a record-equaling 20th English title and their first since 2020. Liverpool have currently 70 points in 29 games as second placed Arsenal are with 54 points with two games in hand.Β

Mohamed Salah equals Sergio Aguero's tally in EPL leading goalscorers

After an average outing earlier in the week against Paris Saint Germain (PSG), Salah was keen to step up in a season where he has been a force to reckon with. He now sees himself third in the list for all-time scorers for Liverpool with 242 goals. He is behind Ian Rush (346) and Roger Hunt (285).

Not only this, the 32-year-old also equaled Manchester City's legend, Sergio Aguero's tally of 184 goals in the Premier League. He is now behind Andrew Cole (187), Wayne Rooney (208), Harry Kane (213) and Alan Shearer (260). Salah is 76 goals away from equaling Shearer's record and 77 goals away from being the all-time scorer in the English top flight.Β

Salah has been involved in a staggering 44 Premier League goals this season in a 38-game campaign as he equals with the tally of former Arsenal superstar Thierry Henry and Erling Haaland.Β

Southampton take the lead but Liverpool makes sure of a comeback

Will Smallbone stunned the crowd at Anfield after scoring in the allotted time for the first half. A mix-up between Virgil Van Dijk and Alisson Becker saw Smallbone score from an angle. But, the lead was short-lived as Darwin Nunez levelled in the 51st minute. With the help of South American flair, Luis Diaz managed to dribble past two defenders before assisting Nunez who rocketed the shot from close range.Β

Three minutes later, Nunez was caught inside the box by Smallbone as Salah slotted his shot past Aaron Ramsdale. In the 87th minute, a handball from Yukinari Sugawara resulted in a penalty that was converted by Salah.Β

This was the only match Liverpool were supposed to play in the month of March in the Premier League. They will now face Newcastle United in the League Cup final on Sunday, March 16 and host PSG at Anfield in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 tie on Wednesday, March 12.Β
