UEFA Champions League final: Haaland, Lautaro and Lukaku — A look at the strikers and their performances this season

SportsTak

Manchester City and Inter Milan have fought their way to the 2023 UEFA Champions League final and will battle for the crown of the best in Europe when they clash at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul on Saturday night, June 10. While City are chasing the coveted European treble having won the Premier League and the FA Cup, Inter will hope to make up for the disappointment of their Serie A season with victory in the UEFA Champions League final.

Key to their success will surely be their strikers. Here, we look at the strikers from both Manchester City and Inter Milan who will be crucial in the final.

Manchester City

Erling Haaland

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has been playing in a league of his own this season. After joining Manchester City, he has single-handedly scored most of his team's goals this season. In the Champions League, he has hit 12 goals in just 10 games this season and is the leading goalscorer.

Julian Alvarez

A World Cup winner with Argentina in the winter, Alvarez has been a bit-part player for City this season but his goals have been nothing short of crucial. Of his 31 appearances in the Premier League, 18 have come off the bench while 13 have been starts. He has scored 9 goals in these. In the UEFA Champions League, he has played 10 games, scoring three goals.

Inter Milan

Lautaro Martinez

Inter Milan's two-pronged attack is led by Argentine Lautaro Martinez. He has only scored three goals in the UEFA Champions League this season. However, he has been prolific in the Serie A. Martinez has scored 21 goals in Italy.

Romelu Lukaku

Lukaku has been injured for most of the season but when fit, he has been on the pitch, he is prolific. Three UEFA Champions League goals in seven games is not a bad return, as well as his 10 goals in 25 Serie A matches.

Edin Dzeko

All eyes will be on 37-year-old veteran forward Edin Dzeko, who won two Premier League titles with Manchester City during his time with the club. Another bit-part player, Dzeko has been busy this season, with 33 appearances yielding nine goals and three assists in the Serie A. In the UEFA Champions League, he has four goals in 12 appearances.
