In a recent announcement, World’s Edge confirmed that the anticipated DLC for Age of Empires 3: Definitive Edition will no longer be released. The developer explained that this decision was made after realizing the initial announcement was made too early, before the content was ready for production. While many fans had been excited for the upcoming additions to the game, the studio acknowledged that the DLC would not meet expectations, leading to the difficult choice to cancel it.
The developer admitted that, in an attempt to engage the Age of Empires 3 community during last year’s franchise celebration, they had prematurely revealed the DLC plans. While the goal was to include the game in the wider celebration, they were unable to deliver the content on time. As a result, fans were left disappointed, especially after waiting for more significant updates.

Commitment to Ongoing Support
Despite the cancellation of the new DLC, World’s Edge assured players that they would continue supporting the game. The developer confirmed that the game’s servers would remain active, and players could still access a rotating selection of civilizations through the free trial. Additionally, previously released DLCs will still be available for those looking for more content beyond the base game.
Age of Empires 3: Definitive Edition launched in 2020 and remains available on Steam and Xbox’s PC Game Pass. Although the new DLC will not be released, fans can still enjoy the game through regular patches and previously launched downloadable content, which continues to offer additional gameplay options.
