Italian Grand Prix is the 16th race of the season and also the second after the summer break. McLaren's Lando Norris won the Dutch Grand Prix with a margin of 22 seconds.
Max Verstappen is leading the Drivers' standings with 295 points. The Dutch driver has four Penalty points. Two points for colliding with Lando Norris in the Austrian GP 2024. They will expire of June 30, 2025. The other two for forcing Charles Leclerc off the track. They will expire on November 19, 2024.
Why Penalty points are given to drivers?
Penalty Points are in use from 2014 to keep driver behavior under control same way as regular road users. If a driver accumulates 12 points on their FIA Super Licence over a month of 12 month, then it results in one race ban. Pierre Gasly came very close to getting a race ban in 2023 when he had 10 points to his name.
