The duo of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri achieved a remarkable feat at the Temple of Speed after McLaren secured their first front row lockout at Monza since 2012. They kept the likes of Red Bull at bay which is crucial for their chances at the Constructors' title as the difference has come down to 30 points at the top.
For the first time in his career, Lando Norris has secured back-to-back pole positions. On top of it, this is his fourth P1 spot in his last seven races.
Pole position : Blessing or curse for Norris
But, whenever Norris has started from the pole position, he has lost the lead. The Dutch Grand Prix was the last instance when he started on pole but immediately lost the lead. However, Norris overtook Max Verstappen on lap 18 and managed to win his second F1 race ever. This bizarre pole streak includes four Grand Prix races and two Sprint races.
Meanwhile, the Brit driver is the fifth different pole setter in the last five years at Monza. Interestingly, none of the last four drivers went onto win the race.
After looking at the duo's graph, they both have come a long way as Norris qualified ninth and Piastri seventh last time around. Last year both the drivers collided but managed to cross the line as Lando finished eighth and Piastri in 12th spot.
First in 12 years
This was the first time that McLaren secured their first front row lockout at Monza after 12 years. In that season, Lewis Hamilton, then racing for McLaren went onto win the race from pole position.
Where do Norris and Piastri stand?
Lando Norris sees himself second in the Drivers' standings with 225 points and 70 behind the leader Max Verstappen (295). His teammate, Oscar Piastri is fourth overall with 179 points. McLaren is also second in the Constructors' table with 404 points and 30 behind the toppers Red Bull (434).
