Despite signing a two-year extension with Red Bull that runs through the end of the F1 2026 season, Perez is facing his toughest year yet with the team. After a strong start to the 2024 season, where he scored 85 points in the first five races, his performance has waned, resulting in only 65 points from the following 15 races. This downturn has seen him drop to eighth in the Drivers’ Championship as Red Bull currently sits third in the Constructors' standings.
Rumors have circulated regarding his possible mid-season replacement, an end-of-season departure, or even an announcement of retirement during his home race in Mexico City. In response, Perez shared a meme from *The Wolf of Wall Street* with the caption “I’m not leaving,” to quell the speculation.
When asked about this post before the United States Grand Prix, Perez remarked, “I just felt like it’s been every year for the last two years or so that someone creates this rumour and then everyone picks it up. Then all my fans, obviously I’m very conscious that there are a lot of people coming to support me at the Mexican Grand Prix, and they probably might be expecting something that is not true. And I felt the need to just say, look, I think it’s just not correct to spread just rumours like this without knowing the facts.”
Perez Disappointing patch
The Mexican Grand Prix weekend didn't go as planned for Perez, as he faced disappointment. After a challenging previous year, he struggled again, not advancing past Q1 and ultimately finishing last following a collision with teammate Liam Lawson. After the event, he shared images on social media, expressing gratitude: “Thank you, Mexico. This wasn’t the weekend for us. I’ll never give up and I’ll try again next year. I’m taking all of you in my car with me!”
Sergio Perez is currently 17th in Drivers Standing and is currently having a bad run in the season. The Red Bull driver is expected to leave Red Bull and rumours also suggest that he can call it a day from here. Red Bull's Max Verstappen is currently leading the Drivers Standing 2024
