While many pointed fingers at Ferrari’s strategy, Leclerc admitted that his own mistake played a significant role in his result.

The 2025 Formula 1 season continues to be a challenging one for Scuderia Ferrari, as the team left Melbourne with a sense of disappointment. Despite hopes for a strong performance, Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton finished in eighth and tenth place, respectively, at the Australian Grand Prix.

One of the key issues was Ferrari’s strategic miscalculation in the latter stages of the race. As rain began to fall, most teams switched to intermediate tires. However, Ferrari opted to keep both drivers on slicks in an attempt to overcome their pace deficit—a decision that ultimately backfired.

 Leclerc Reflects on Ferrari’s Struggles
Speaking to Sky Sport after the race, Leclerc did not hide his frustration with the team’s performance and acknowledged that the season’s start had been below expectations.

"It was a difficult race. There is something we need to analyze and improve. From the outside, it might seem easy to judge, but each situation is unique. However, we must accept the fact that we struggle every time these conditions arise. We are aware of this, and it is something we are focusing on more than other areas," he stated.

Leclerc Takes Responsibility for Costly Mistake
While many pointed fingers at Ferrari’s strategy, Leclerc admitted that his own mistake played a significant role in his result. As heavy rain hit the circuit, he lost control at Turn 11, spinning and dropping multiple positions.

"Today didn’t go well, but before addressing the team’s mistakes, I have to acknowledge mine. It was the most significant. I lost the car coming out of Turn 11 and fell back by four or five positions. In the end, I believe I could have finished third or fourth. If that had been the case, we would be having a different discussion about the race. I expected much more from this first race, and I’m disappointed," he admitted.

Looking Ahead to China: Another Tough Challenge for Ferrari?
The season continues with the next stop in China, a circuit that hasn’t been favorable to Ferrari in recent years. Leclerc acknowledged the challenge but emphasized the importance of a quick reaction.

"We will be back in the car in four days, and I hope we can make up for it. It’s crucial that we respond quickly. Unfortunately, we are heading to China, which isn’t the friendliest track for us. Last year, we struggled a lot, but it’s a proper circuit that will give us valuable feedback. We must work hard and try to improve moving forward," he concluded.

Can Ferrari Turn Their Season Around?
With Ferrari struggling to match their rivals, the team must address their strategic decisions and performance limitations if they hope to compete at the front. Will they manage to bounce back in China, or will their woes continue? The next race will be crucial in determining their trajectory for the season.
