CAS has dismissed Vinesh Phogat's silver medal petition.

She was disqualified from the 50kg women's wrestling event in the Paris Olympics 2024.

Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) has dismissed Vinesh Phogat's silver medal petition a day after pushing the date for her verdict for the third time. This means that the star Indian wrestler will not get any medal. She was disqualified from the 50kg women's wrestling event in the recently concluded Paris Olympics after reaching the final due to being 100 gm overweight than the sanctioned weight limit. Earlier CAS extended its decision deadline and said they will announce its ruling on August 13, 2024. However, later they said it would be done on August 16. Surprisingly, the decision came just a day after they deferred it again.

“The applictaion filed by Vinesh Phogat in 7 August 2024 is dismissed,” CAS wrote in their official statement. A detailed judgement on the matter will be out soon too from the Court of Arbitration for Sports.

CAS questions to Vinesh Phogat

Vinesh Phogat's case was represented in CAS by senior lawyer Harish Salve. During this, CAS also asked three big questions to the Indian wrestler. The first question that was asked to Vinesh was regarding the rules related to weight.

1st question - Were you aware of the rule that you will be weighed the next day also?

Vinesh had demanded a joint silver as her disqualification happened after she sealed her spot in the Final. Cuban wrestler who suffered a loss against Vinesh in the semis was promoted to the Final but another loss there forced her to settle with a silver medal. Vinesh appealed that the silver medal should be shared. The second question was asked to her regarding this.

2nd question - Will the Cuban wrestler share the silver medal with you?

The third question was regarding her appeal

3rd question - Do you want the decision of this appeal to be publicly announced or communicated privately in a confidential manner?

This decision means Vinesh Phogat has lost the opportunity to create history once again. She was the first Indian women wrestler to reach the Olympic final but this could have been more historic with a silver medal. The whole nation was in support of Vinesh as she was dominating all her opponents and cake-walked her way into the finals but now CAS has rejected her appeal and shattered the dreams of billions of Indians.
