In the highly competitive world of javelin throw, a new rivalry has emerged, casting a spotlight on the Asian continent. Neeraj Chopra from India and Arshad Nadeem from Pakistan are giving traditional European stalwarts a run for their money. The buzz is palpable – as the Paris Olympics approach, all eyes are on these two champions, eagerly anticipating their next face-off.

Arshad Nadeem, who has swiftly risen to fame in a country where cricket is revered, has etched his name in Pakistan's sports history. He recently clinched the silver medal in the men's javelin throw at the World Athletics Championship held in Budapest, closely following Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra who secured gold.

"Neeraj and I have a very healthy competition and we respect each other a lot. There is no Pakistan-India rivalry in a bad way. When we talk we are just happy that both of us have come to the fore in a competition usually dominated by Europeans," Nadeem told PTI.

However, this isn't Nadeem's only accolade. Last year, he dominated the field at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games, achieving a staggering throw of 90.18 meters to win gold. It's noteworthy that during this event, Neeraj Chopra couldn't participate due to a groin injury, allowing Nadeem to shine unchallenged, particularly against numerous European competitors.

Reflecting on his silver-medal-winning performance at the Worlds, Nadeem expressed immense satisfaction. Competing against Chopra, whom he regards as one of the best in recent times, was undoubtedly a significant highlight for him. After the thrilling final, in a gesture that transcended borders, Chopra invited Nadeem for a shared victory lap, underlining the mutual respect between the two competitors.

"It is a very satisfying achievement for me to get a distance of 87.82 metres as I returned to international competition after nearly a year due to my elbow surgery," he said.

The Chopra-Nadeem rivalry has now become a hot topic among sports enthusiasts and experts alike. The World Championships showcased a unique moment for the sport: for the first time, athletes from both India and Pakistan shared the limelight simultaneously. This evolving narrative in the world of javelin throws promises even more captivating showdowns in the future, and the sports community worldwide is here for it.
