The Pakistan Super League's (PSL) next season is set to clash with Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) made the changes due to their busy international schedule.
As per early indications from PCB, PSL is likely to be held between April 10 and May 25 in 2025. The 2024 edition was held from March 22 to May 26.
PSL usually takes place from February to March every year. However, the reason behind it getting pushed is the tri-series at home which will be followed by Champions Trophy 2025 and the series against West Indies.
Big boost to players’ salaries at domestic level
PCB Chief Mohsin Naqvi also announced changes in their domestic cricket setup introducing five new teams which will play a total of 261 matches including 131 first-class games, 40 One-Day games and 90 T20s.
These five teams will have 30 players each. A total of These 150 players will be divided in three categories. 40 players in Category 1 will get PKR 5,50,000 per month. 50 players in Category 2 will get PKR 4,00,000 per month whereas 60 players from Category 3 will get PKR 2,50,000 per month.
Comparing these 150 players' remuneration to domestic contracts, in 2023-24 they used to get from PKR 50,000 to 3,00,000 as per the category.
In addition, the 150 players will get PKR 2,00,000, PKR 1,25,000 and PKR 1,00,000 as match fees for each first-class game, One-Day game and T20 respectively. Compared to last season’s fees, the players are getting an additional PKR 80,000 and 40,000 for red-ball and white-ball matches.
Waqar in charge of strengthening domestic cricket system
Waqar Younis who is heading the six-member advisory committee said that he is in conversation with five former cricketers to be associated with as many teams at domestic level.
"We will appoint five legends to head the teams and I am already in touch with some of them," the former Pakistan fast bowler said.
Also, he said that participation in the domestic events will be mandatory for Pakistan's centrally contracted players.
