Spanish tennis legend Rafael Nadal is not confident that he will take part in the singles tennis tournament at the Paris Olympics 2024. Nadal who teamed up with Carlos Alcaraz for the doubles match is yet to decide whether he will contest in the singles game or conserve his energy to bring home a medal in the doubles.
On July 27, Nadal and Alcaraz beat Argentina's sixth seeds Maximi Gonzalez and Andres Molteni 7-6, 6-4 at the Court Philippe Chartier.
"Tomorrow, I don't know what's going to happen," the 38-year-old told the media. "I don't know if I'm going to play or not."
Nadal said that he will make a final call after talking to his team.
"We are going to make the decisions that we think are most appropriate as a team to try to have the best chances of bringing medals home for the Spanish team, to try to give ourselves the chances of that happening," Nadal said.
"Sometimes more is more, sometimes more is less, but with that I'm not saying that I'm not going to play at all," he added.
Nadal and Alcaraz treated the packed crowd with spectacular shots. The veteran Spaniard enthralled the crowd with a strong backhand winner.
The two-time gold medal-winner in the singles event at the Olympics is yet to announce whether this will be the last tournament he will play. Injuries have been a concern for the southpaw in the last few years preventing him from participating him in major tournaments.
Will Paris Olympics be Nadal’s last dance?
Nadal was asked about whether Paris Olympics 2024 will be his last dance or not to which he replied, "I never said that. I don't know. I didn't make any decision to say anything."
Nadal was happy to be playing with a 21-year-old Alcaraz who recently beat Novak Djokovic win the Wimbledon 2024 final.
"I'm just enjoying these moments playing together with Carlos now. In doubles, (it's) been an unforgettable day today - and for me, an unforgettable day yesterday. Enjoying every single moment, having the best experience possible," Nadal said.
