India's Olympic beacon Neeraj Chopra once again illuminated the sports world, this time in Budapest at the World Athletics Championships. On Sunday, August 27, he etched his name in golden letters, claiming the top spot in the men's javelin event.

Securing this victory with an awe-inspiring throw of 88.17m on his second attempt, Chopra demonstrated not only his unparalleled skill but also his indomitable spirit. This phenomenal achievement cements him as the inaugural Indian athlete to bask in such glory.

But the tale of Indian prowess didn't stop with Chopra. The Championships also bore witness to the commendable performances of Kishore Jena and DP Manu, who clinched the fifth and sixth positions respectively. Their feats resonate as a testament to India's escalating prominence in global athletics.

Chopra's journey to this illustrious gold wasn't without hiccups. After an initial foul, he rebounded with unmatched fervour, registering consecutive throws of 88.17m, 86.32m, 84.64m, 87.73m, and 83.98m.

The podium also honoured Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan, the reigning Commonwealth Games champion, who bagged the silver with a throw of 87.82m. Jakub Vadlejch from the Czech Republic gracefully accepted the bronze.

This victory not only elevates Neeraj Chopra to an illustrious echelon but also aligns him with shooter Abhinav Bindra. Together, they are India's twin stars, both holding the titles of the Olympics and the World Athletics Championships. It's noteworthy that this monumental achievement is shared with only two other global javelin virtuosos.

Chopra's first foray into global recognition was in 2021, at the Tokyo Olympics. There, he dazzled the world, becoming India's first track and field gold medallist. This latest accolade adds another feather to his cap, which boasts of victories at the Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, Diamond League Meetings, and the Asian Championships.

Neeraj Chopra's meteoric rise and India's steady ascent in the world of athletics are emblematic of a nation poised to leave an indelible mark on the annals of sports history.'
