Asian Games 2023: Indian archers commence campaign with Jyothi and Aditi dominating the qualifications

Jyothi, along with Aditi Swami and Parneet Kaur (12th place), achieved an aggregate team score of 2087. This tied them with South Korea, but the Indians secured the top seed due to their higher number of '10+X' scores.

In a remarkable display of skill, Indian archers excelled at the Asian Games 2023, particularly in the compound archery category. Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Aditi Swami dominated the qualification rounds, securing top positions and helping India claim the top seed in women's compound archery. In the men's recurve section, Atanu Das and Dhiraj Bommadevara also impressed, securing their spots in the elimination round.

Jyothi Surekha Vennam, a seasoned archer with an illustrious career, topped the qualification rounds, showcasing her exceptional talent. She dropped just five points and accumulated a total of 355 at the midway mark of 36 arrows. With 16 perfect 10s and 15 Xs (closest to the center), Jyothi proved her precision.

Although Jyothi slipped slightly in the latter half of the 36 arrows, finishing with 349 points, she still outperformed her South Korean competitor, So Chaewon, by one point, securing the top spot in the qualification.

Men's Recurve Archery
In the men's recurve section, Atanu Das, a two-time Olympian, showcased his comeback by finishing as the top-ranked Indian in overall fourth place with a score of 678. Young talent Dhiraj Bommadevara followed closely, securing the seventh spot with a score of 675.

The duo successfully made the cut for the elimination round, and Tushar Shelke, the next best Indian at 15th place, qualified for the team event. In the team event, the Indian men's recurve team claimed the third seedings with a total score of 2022, just eight points behind Chinese Taipei. South Korea occupied the first spot with 2048 points.

Upcoming Events
The women's recurve and men's compound qualifiers are scheduled for the second half of the day, adding to the anticipation and excitement of India's archery performance at the Asian Games.
