India expands contingent, adds 22 new athletes to their list of Asian Games 2023 participants

India is set to dispatch a staggering 655 athletes to partake in the Asian Games 2023.The Asian Games is set to take place in Hangzhou, China from September 23 to October 8.

In a move showcasing India's growing commitment to the sporting world, the Sports Ministry recently announced an expanded contingent for the upcoming Asian Games 2023, set to take place in Hangzhou, China. The revision includes the inclusion of 22 new sportspersons and 25 strategic replacements encompassing athletes, coaches, and vital support staff.

 

Highlighting India's diversification into various sports, Modern Pentathlon, a combination of fencing, freestyle swimming, equestrian show jumping, and a final combined event of pistol shooting and cross country running, has been added to the roster. This inclusion escalates India's participation to an impressive 39 sporting disciplines for the Asian spectacle.

 

A magnified view reveals that the nation is set to dispatch a staggering 655 athletes to partake in the Asian Games, scheduled between September 23 and October 8. They will be complemented by 260 adept coaches and supporting staff. Consequently, the overall strength of the Indian delegation for the Games will reach an astounding 921 members.

 

Diving deeper into the specifics, the shooting squad will now benefit from the prowess of sharpshooters Manisha Keer, Preeti Rajak, and Angad Vir Singh Bajwa. The athletics department has been bolstered with the induction of talents like Amlan Borgohain, Preeti, and Prachi.

A wave of fresh talent sweeps the Ju-Jitsu discipline, as Anwesha Deb, Nikita Chaudhary, Uma Maheshwar, Kamal Singh, and Tarun Yadav join the fold. In aquatics, Janhvi Choudhary is set to make a splash, while Suraj Yadav is anticipated to showcase his skills in wushu. Notably, Mayank Chaphekar will be the sole representative for India in the Modern Pentathlon.

Further enriching the team's diversity, Vishal Ruhil, Keshav, Suchika Tariyal, and Jyoti Tokas will compete in the ancient sport of Kurash. Meanwhile, the men's team pursuit in cycling will witness the addition of Venkappa Shivappa Kengalgutti, Neeraj Kumar, Manjeet Kumar, and Dinesh Kumar, enhancing the team's depth and potential.

With these strategic additions and replacements, India aims to make a significant mark and clinch more medals in the upcoming Asian Games 2023. The nation's sports enthusiasts eagerly await to witness the performances of these prodigious talents on the grand Asian stage.
