John Cena turned heel at the Elimination Chamber 2025.

John Cena is a 16-time world champion in WWE.

John Cena remained a face in the WWE for over two decades.

John Cena's shocking heel turn at the recently held WWE Elimination Chamber PLE has caused seismic waves in the world of pro wrestling. While more than 48 hours have passed since the startling character transition of the man who is touted as the company's biggest babyface, the fans haven't stopped contemplating how the 16-time World Champion will carry the gimmick of being an antagonist after two decades of being the leading protagonist.

After the Doctor of Thuganomics gimmick, which he portrayed in the initial phase of his career, John Cena has remained a face till now until all hell broke down at the Elimination Chamber, where he low-blowed the undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes. Though avid followers of the sport have been calling and demanding a John Cena heel turn for an eternity, the timing at which he has transformed into the grey shades, when he is about to retire, made the turn hard to wrap around and almost impossible to guess.

John Cena Is Not the Longest Running Babyface of the WWE

However, in the aftermath of what has transpired, a popular axiom that is floating around is that nobody has stayed a face this long in the current scenario of the WWE. To contradict the statement and prove it entirely wrong, the name of a WWE superstar, who has attained the stature of a legend in the ring and has also been inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, must cross the mind.

Rey Mysterio Hasn't Turned Heel in His WWE Career

Rey Mysterio, who made his WWE debut (2002) almost at the same time as John Cena, has remained a face in the WWE for the entirety of his career. Touted as the ultimate underdog, Rey Mysterio has never turned heel during his stint with the WWE. He is much loved by the fans and had two WWE World Championship reigns in the process with the biggest wrestling promotion in the world. Not just the world titles he has held every title in the WWE, which makes him a Grand Slam champion. Moreover, Mysterio is a Royal Rumble winner as well. Mysterio is still pretty much active on the scene and is working as a face in 2025.

While Rey Mysterio has never been the topmost superstar of the company like Cena, still the conjecture of John Cena playing the role of a babyface longer than anyone fails in front of Rey Mysterio.
