Ranked at 19th worldwide, the dynamic duo of Gayatri and Treesa, already known for their sterling performances at the All England Championships where they've twice reached the semifinals, overpowered the 37th ranked Chang and Yang. They registered a convincing scoreline of 21-18, 21-10, wrapping up the match in a mere 38 minutes.
Following a bye in the opening round, courtesy of their stellar ranking, the Commonwealth Games bronze medalists are set to face a challenging contest. They're gearing up to play against the top-seeded Chinese pairing of Chen Qing Chen and Jia Yi Fan in the subsequent round.
The match began with a slight hiccup for the Indian pair as they trailed 2-5. However, adapting swiftly, they incorporated a strategy of rotating strikes and elongating the rallies. This strategy, aimed at extracting mistakes from their opponents, paid off as they overturned the deficit to lead 8-6.
Although Chang and Yang temporarily equaled the score at 8-8, the relentless Indian pair managed to pull ahead with an 11-9 lead at the interval, thanks to a series of net errors by the Taiwanese duo.
Post the break, Gayatri exhibited sharp reflexes and anticipation, driving the pair to a 14-11 advantage. Despite some missteps from Treesa, the Indian team held their ground against their resilient adversaries.
Leading into the second game, the momentum remained firmly with the Indian pair. They showcased consistent domination, maintaining their lead and capitalizing on the errors of their opponents. With a ten-point lead in their hands and the match point on the horizon, Treesa and Gayatri concluded the match with finesse, sealing their place in the pre-quarterfinals.
