Jon Jones has established himself as one of the greatest fighters in the UFC with a commendable record of 28-1-0 in the light heavyweight division, followed by a transition in the heavyweight division, where he is the reigning champion. Notably, Bones made his comeback in the UFC in 2023 after voluntarily vacating the light heavyweight title in 2020. After a hiatus of three years, the 37-year-old made a remarkable comeback last year, where he defeated France's Ciryl Gane to start his reign in the heavyweight division.

Following Gane, Jones took down fellow countryman Stipe Miocic and is now expected to meet the English fighter Tom Aspinall any time soon, as Dana White has already confirmed that their fight is on the cards and will be "definitely" happening in 2025. Amid all these updates, there are speculations the New York-based MMA legend will announce his retirement following the 2025 season, and one of the former UFC fighters has confirmed the news. Here is what we know about the update.

Is Jones retiring?

The former UFC fighter turned submission grappling promoter Chael Sonnen has recently made the claim that he is pretty much confident that Jones will announce his retirement after this year and boldly predicted that his fight against Aspinall will turn out to be the last fight of Jones' career. Sonnen also noted that Jones is going to do far better than what people are expecting.

"If you wanted my boldest prediction of 2025, I’m actually very confident in the prediction and that is that Jon Jones retires. I will tell you that Jon Jones is gonna fight Tom Aspinall. I will tell you Jon’s gonna do a lot better with Tom than some people are giving him credit for, but that’s tomorrow’s discussion. When that fight is done, win or lose, I do believe it will be Jon’s final appearance,” Sonnen said in his statement

If Jon Jones decides to retire, he already has a plan in place. He intends to transition into acting, having gained some experience through his appearance in the Netflix series 'The Cage,' where he starred alongside Ciryl Gane. In addition to Aspinall, Jones has also expressed that he will be fighting the Light Heavyweight Champion Alex Pereira in the near future.
