Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the former president of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), has distanced himself from the recent suspension of the federation by the Sports Ministry. In a press conference held on December 24, Singh stated that he has no connection with the latest developments that have shaken the Indian wrestling community.

The suspension of the WFI came on Sunday after the Sports Ministry accused the newly elected board, led by president Sanjay Singh, of violating rules and regulations. The ministry's statement emphasized that the new board seemed to be under the influence of the previous office bearers, who had faced suspension following allegations of sexual harassment.

"I have worked 12 years for the wrestlers. Time will tell if I have done justice. I am completely retired from wrestling. I have cut ties with wrestling. Now decisions and talks with the government will be done by the elected people of the federation," Brij Bhushan said at a press conference.

The controversy around Brij Bhushan Singh escalated earlier this year when wrestlers accused him of harassing several young junior wrestlers. Following these allegations, Singh was removed from his position, leading to Sanjay Singh's election as the new president.

The situation further intensified with celebrated Indian wrestler Sakshee Malikkh announcing her retirement in a tearful press conference. She expressed her frustration with the WFI, citing concerns from young female wrestlers about the junior national championships being conducted in Gonda, a region known to be a stronghold of the former president.

Following these developments, the Sports Ministry took the decisive step of suspending the newly elected WFI body. The ministry's action reflects its commitment to addressing the concerns raised by athletes and ensuring the integrity of sports governance in India.

In response to the suspension, sources from India Today have reported that the Sanjay Singh-led WFI is planning to challenge the ministry's decision in the Delhi High Court. This legal move indicates the complexities involved in the matter and the ongoing struggle within the wrestling federation to resolve these deep-rooted issues.

The entire episode marks a tumultuous period in Indian wrestling, highlighting the need for transparent and ethical governance in sports institutions. The allegations and subsequent actions have not only affected the federation's functioning but also brought to light the challenges athletes face, demanding a more responsive and responsible sports administration in India.
