The Delhi government has acted quickly to reprimand the Indian Administrative Services (IAS) officers who had emptied the Thyagaraj Stadium just to take a walk with their dog on Wednesday. According to a report by the Indian Express. The IAS officer and his wife, who is also an IAS officer, were recently seen walking a dog in the stadium.
Soon after the photo went viral, the Union Home Ministry transferred both the officers. Sanjeev Khirwar and his wife Rinku Dugga have been transferred to Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh respectively because of the misuse of stadium facilities. It has been alleged that both used to go for a walk in the stadium with their dog, which affected the training of the players.
“Earlier we used to train till 8-8.30 pm. But now we are asked to leave the field by 7 pm so that the officials can walk their dogs on the ground. Our training and practice routine has been disrupted. He "sometimes" takes his pet for a walk, but it is not clear that this is disrupting the routine of the athletes," one of the coaches said.
Due to these officers, the players and coach had trouble in practice. The players who used to practice in this stadium got their transfer done to the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. Meanwhile, the players who were practicing at the Thyagaraj Stadium had to leave the stadium early due to these two officials. This affected the routine training of the players badly.
The Thyagaraj Stadium was built for the 2010 Commonwealth Games. National and state-level athletes and football players practice.
Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal's gift to the players
The Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also shared his support for the athletes who were facing problems due to the early closure of the stadium. Kejriwal announced that now they will be able to practice in all stadiums till 10 pm. Before the decision to keep all stadiums open for players till 10 pm, players and coaches could not practice normally after 7 pm at the Delhi government-run Thyagaraj Stadium.
