Tokyo OIympics gold medallist Neeraj Chopra has broken his personal best and national record again within a few weeks with an 89.94 metre throw on his return to Diamond League after nearly four years.
It was only his first throw in Diamond League 2022 that nearly touched the 90m mark. His personal best throw earned him a silver medal at Stockholm, Sweden.
Chopra recently created a national record with 89.30m throw at the Paavo Nurmi Games 2022 to with the silver medal on June 14.
Chopra followed up the 89.94m throw with 84.37m, 87.46m, 84.77m and 86.67m. Granada's Anderson Peters beat Chopra to gold medal again with a 90.31m throw on this third attempt. The 2019 World Champion Granada had won the gold medal in Paavo Nurmi Games as well.
Germany's Julian Weber finished at third place with an 89.08m throw on his fifth attempt and won the bronze medal at the event.
Chopra's last Diamond League appearance was in August 2018. With an 85.73 metre throw, he finished fourth in Zurich and missed out on a bronze medal. Earlier, he had finished fourth on two occasions in the Diamond League. In Doha, he had thrown 87.43 metre.
