Neeraj Chopra's 84.14m throw earned him the second spot at the Janusz Kusocinski Memorial 2025

Meanwhile, Germany's Julian Weber ended up winning the title

In a similar script to that of Doha Diamond League, the two-time Olympic medallist Neeraj Chopra was second-best to Julian Weber at the Janusz Kusocinski Memorial 2025 in Poland on May 23. Neeraj Chopra finished second with an 84.14m throw in his last shot while Germany's Julian Weber reigned supreme after clocking his best throw of 86.12m.

Neeraj Chopra secured second place in the event with an 84.14m throw on his final attempt, pushing Anderson Peters of Grenada, whose best throw was 83.24m in the third round, into third. Julian Weber of Germany topped the competition with a best throw of 86.12m, achieved in the second round.

Neeraj had an uncharacteristically slow start, beginning with a foul throw on his first attempt. He followed this with an 81.28m throw in the second round, but then registered consecutive foul throws in the third and fourth rounds.

He improved his initial throw of 81.28m with an 81.80m throw in the fifth round, before ultimately clinching second place with his final attempt of 84.14m. This marks the 22nd consecutive event where Neeraj has finished within the top two. His last finish outside the top two was at the Kuortane Games in Finland on June 26, 2021.

Neeraj Chopra, a two-time Olympic medalist and the reigning World Champion, commenced his 2025 calendar with a strong showing at the Potch Invitational Meet in Potchefstroom, South Africa, in April. He secured a win there with an 84.52m throw in what was a training event. He then appeared to be in excellent form at the Doha Diamond League, where he not only surpassed his personal best and set a new national record but also became the first Indian, third Asian, and only the 25th athlete overall to break the coveted 90m barrier. The other two Asian throwers to have achieved this remarkable feat are Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem (92.97m) of Pakistan and Chao-Tsun Cheng (91.36m) of Chinese Taipei.

India's javelin superstar will next be seen in action at the Ostrava Golden Spike in the Czech Republic on June 24.
