Table Tennis' parent body, ITTF (International Table Tennis Federation), is investigating the serious allegations made by Manika Batra over national coach Soumyadeep Roy.
After returning from Tokyo, Manika had levelled match-fixing allegations against the India coach. She had said that Roy had asked her to lose to Sutirtha Mukherjee in the Olympic qualification match in Doha this year.
A top source in Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) told Sports Tak that the ITTF will be looking into the matter of Manika.
"We have handed over everything and there was virtual meetings held with the involved. As of now nothing is clear from parent body but if things go against Manika then she along with the other athletes in the Indian Olympic TT squad might be suspended," the source said.
Manika was served with a show-cause notice by the Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) after refusing Roy’s help during her singles matches in Tokyo. In response, she denied charges of indiscipline and instead alleged Roy had pressurised her to concede the match.
