WWE World Heavyweight Champion Gunther is reportedly in the final stages of securing a new long-term contract with the company. According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider, Gunther is either close to completing negotiations or has already signed the deal. The contract is expected to be a multi-year agreement, highlighting WWE’s continued commitment to the reigning World Heavyweight Champion.

The news of the contract extension was also confirmed by Sean Ross Sapp from Fightful Select, who shared that sources within WWE expect the deal to be finalized before the end of the year, barring any unforeseen issues. Sapp reports that WWE is thrilled with Gunther’s contributions, both in the ring and in media appearances. One high-ranking WWE official praised Gunther as “among the most professional talents they had ever worked with,” which underscores the company’s appreciation for his dedication and work ethic.

 Gunther's WWE Career Journey

Gunther, 37, initially joined WWE in 2019 after establishing a successful career internationally in Europe, Japan, and the U.S. He had notable runs with Pro Wrestling Guerrilla (PWG), EVOLVE, and Combat Zone Wrestling (CZW) before making the leap to WWE. Gunther’s dominance in WWE has been evident, especially as the current World Heavyweight Champion.

At Survivor Series, Gunther successfully defended his title against Damian Priest with an assist from Finn Balor, though the champion quickly made his stance clear by flattening Balor with a powerful kick after the win.

Gunther’s Title Defenses and Upcoming Match

The aftermath of Gunther's victory at Survivor Series saw Finn Balor demand a title shot for his assistance, but Gunther moved on to face Dominik Mysterio in a subsequent match on Raw. After securing the win over Mysterio, Gunther was once again attacked by Balor, who sought a title match from Adam Pearce. Pearce confirmed that Gunther had already agreed to defend his title in a match against Balor on Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 14.

 Gunther's WWE Success

Since joining WWE, Gunther has made a significant impact. He dominated the European wrestling scene before becoming the longest-reigning United Kingdom Champion in history. He transitioned to NXT, where he continued to build his legacy, before making his main roster debut on SmackDown in 2022. His success continued with a record-setting reign as Intercontinental Champion, and his career reached new heights when he captured the World Heavyweight Championship at SummerSlam 2024.

Gunther's upcoming contract extension is another milestone in what is shaping up to be a long and successful career with WWE.
