Ashes 2023: Joe Root records sensational WTC record with splendid ton

Joe Root cracked a magnificent century on Day 1 of the ongoing Ashes 2023 opener against Australia.

Root became the first cricketer to notch first centuries in back to back WTC cycles.

Root took 145 balls to complete his century on Day 1 of the ongoing Test against Australia at Edgbaston.

Root ended up scoring an unbeaten 118 which was was studded with seven fours and two sixes.

With this Root recorded his 30th Test century and first against Australia since 2015.

Root also belted the first hundred of WTC 2021-2023 cycle which came against India.

The star English batter whacked the century in the second innings of the first Test against India in 2021.

Notably, Root became the first cricketer to notch a hundred in the WTC match.
