Numbers prove Todd Murphy's debut performance might be a fluke

But the off-spinner's name was added to an inauspicious list after this exemplary performance.
India's Narendra Hirwani took eight wickets for 61 runs in the first innings of the debut Test match against the West Indies in the year 1988 in Chennai. But he could play only 17 Test matches for India, taking 66 scalps.
West Indies left-arm spinner Alf Valentine took 8 wickets for 104 runs in the debut test match against England in the year 1950. He then played only 36 matches, taking 139 wickets.
Spinner Jason Krejza, who took eight wickets for 215 runs in his debut match against India in Nagpur ground in 2008, did not last long and he played only two Test matches.
England's left arm spinner James Langridge took seven wickets for 56 runs against the West Indies in his debut match in 1933. But his career also did not last long. He could bagged 19 wickets in 8 games for England.
Pakistan's off-spinner Mohammad Nazir took 7 wickets for 99 runs in his debut game in 1969. However, his career did not last long, taking 34 wickets in 14 Test matches for Pakistan.
Former England off-spinner Jim Laker took seven wickets for 103 runs in the first innings in his debut Test against the West Indies in 1948. His career did not last long and he could only manage 193 wickets in 46 Tests for England.
Australia's off-spinner Murphy has taken seven wickets for 124 runs in a spell of 47 overs in the first innings against India in his debut match.
