Team India's fast bowler Mohammed Shami has been tested positive for Covid-19 and has been ruled out of the three-match T20 series against Australia.
India's star pacer Umesh Yadav has been named as Shami's replacement for the upcoming Australia series which is slated to start from September 20.
Umesh landed at the Chandigarh airport without any fuss and headed straight for the hotel where the rest of the Indian team members were staying.
Umesh will be seen donning the Indian jersey in the 1st T20I against Australia as he will be coming back to India's fold after a halt of 43 months.
Umesh played the last T20I match in February 2019, when he played against Australia in Visakhapatnam.
Umesh Yadav had a great outing with the ball in the IPL 2022 playing for Kolkata Knight Riders as he snared 16 wickets in the overall season.
Until recently, Umesh Yadav was dealing with the injury woes and was undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA).
Umesh returned to India fold after a long wait as after the injury he was playing county cricket in English and also went on to play limited overs matches.
The T20I series between India and Australia is slated to start from September 20 and Umesh is all set to fire yet again with his formidable pace.
Talking about Umesh Yadav's T20I career, he has played less matches than Arshdeep. Umesh has played 7 T20Is in which he has snared 9 wickets at an average of 2.0.
