Jos Buttler breaks Kumar Sangakkara's 12-year-old T20 World Cup record

Buttler now holds the record for highest individual score as captain and wicketkeeper-batter in T20 World Cup history



Former Sri Lankan skipper Sangakkara scored 49-ball 68 against West Indies in 2010 edition of T20 World Cup.


Buttler broke the record with a 47-ball 73 against New Zealand at the Gabba, Brisbane in ongoing T20 World Cup. 

Apart from Buttler and Sangakkara, Zimbabwe's Brendan Taylor is the only other batter to score a half-century as captain and wicketkeeper-batter.


Brendan Taylor scored 46-ball 59 against Ireland in T20 World Cup 2014. 


For India MS Dhoni holds the record. Dhoni scored 39-ball 45 against South Africa in inaugural edition of T20 World Cup 2007.


Buttler also became England’s leading run-scorer in T20Is as he surpassed former skipper Eoin Morgan. 


Now, the wicketekeeper-batter has 2,468 runs from 92 innings at an average of 33.80 including 1 century and 18 fifties.
