England's Joe Root became new no.1 in ICC's Test batting rankings.

Root dislodged Australia's Marnus Labuschagne from top.

Root surged to no.1 ranking after his sensational batting in England's losing cause in the Ashes 2023 opener against Australia.

Root belted an unbeaten 118 in the first innings and followed it up with another 46 in the second innings for England.

While Root climbed five places up to the top, Labuschagne dropped two places to grab third spot in the Test batting rankings.

Meanwhile, Steve Smith, who recently surged to no.2, tumbled to sixth place after failing to put up a show with the bat in Ashes 2023 opener.

On the other hand, India's batting juggernaut Virat Kohli too dropped a place from 13th to 14th.

Rishabh Pant is the only Indian batter in top-10 as he continues to grab 10th place in Test batting rankings.
