Wanindu Hasaranga joins THIS rare list of elite spinners

October 18, 2022

Leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga bagged three wickets for 8 runs as the UAE batters were bowled out for just 73 runs in 17.1 overs.

However, it was his economy rate that caught the eyes of many people.

Hasaranga's 2 runs per over was the lowest economy rate for a bowler completing 4 overs in a match of the T20 World Cup.

He is joint third alongside Ajantha Mendis and Mahmadullah on this list

Ajantha Mendis sealed the top spot after his 6/8 against West Indies in the 2012 T20 World Cup.

Former Bangladesh skipper Mahmudullah's 1/8 against Afghanistan in 2014 makes him the third player with an economy rate of 2.0.

Mendis also has the second lowest economy rate in a match, at 2.25 against West Indies during the T20 World Cup in 2009.

Hasaranga, who was the highest wicket-taker at the 2021 T20 World Cup, will hope to contribute with the bat to help Sri Lanka qualify for the Super 12.
