Defending champions Australia failed to make it to the T20 WC semis as they suffered an early ouster in the Super-12 stage.
Australia won three matches in this edition, lost one and got washed out due to rain. New Zealand and England advanced to the last-4 from Group 1.
Australia lost the first match to New Zealand by 89 runs and since then they couldn't recover from it and at the end it was net run rate which scripted their exit.
Australia's star studded pace attack which featured Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood failed to deliver as they conceded runs at an economy rate of 8.81.
Skipper Aaron Finch struggled with the form throughout the tournament. He could only score a fifty against Ireland but was ruled out due to injury in the next match.
David Warner was Australia's highest scorer in the 2021 T20 World Cup but miserably failed this time around.
Australia's middle order also faltered all through the tournament. There were a lot of expectations from Glenn Maxwell, Tim David but both of them misfired.
Australia won the T20 World Cup for the first time in 2021. Prior to this, their best performance came in 2010, when they lost to England in the final.
