July 21, 2023 Fast bowler Mukesh Kumar made his Test debut against the West Indies after replacing Shardul Thakur in the team.
Mukesh Kumar has had a long journey from Gopalganj in Bihar to Team India.
Mukesh's father Kashinath Singh was against him playing cricket and wanted him to join the CRPF.
Mukesh failed in CRPF exam twice. After playing in Bihar's U19 team, his career was not progressing.
He then decided to play 'Khep' cricket in Bengal. He used to play tennis ball cricket, earning Rs 500 to Rs 5000.
Mukesh was battling malnutrition. He also had 'Bone Edema' in which the knee fills up with water, and because of which he could not play any cricket.
Former Bengal fast bowler Ranadeb Bose saw Mukesh's talent in the 'Vision 2020' program. He failed in the trials but Bose convinced Sourav Ganguly about his talent.
CAB took care of Mukesh's food and drink and got his MRI done as well. This helped Mukesh make his debut for Bengal against Haryana in 2015-16.
Mukesh Kumar dismissed Virender Sehwag in his very first Ranji match and took a total of five wickets.
Mukesh has 149 wickets in 39 first class matches. He also has six 5-wicket hauls in an innings.
Mukesh Kumar was bought by Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2023 auction for Rs 5.5 crore. He played 10 matches and took seven wickets.
On being selected for the West Indies tour, Mukesh said "It is said that if you did not play the Test, then what did you play?"
