New Zealand lost their first match of the T20 World Cup against England on Tuesday, November 1.
Chasing 180 for the win, the Kiwis could only score 159 runs, with Glenn Phillips and Kane Williamson scoring for NZ.
But while Phillips hit a 36-ball 62, his captain Williamson scored a run-a-ball 40.
This is not Williamson's first run-a-ball score at the World Cup.
He hit the bulk of New Zealand's 60 runs while chasing 119 against Sri Lanka in 2014, scoring 42 off 43 balls.
And in 2021, his 40 off 42 balls guided NZ to the semi-finals with a win over Afghanistan, knocking out India and South Africa.
But unlike that match, his efforts on Tuesday were well below what was required, with the Kiwis losing by 20 runs.
However, their 104-run win over Australia gives them a foothold on the table, keeping them on top with one game to go.
