WTC Final 2023: Former captain makes a comeback after a gap of 15 months

The All-India Senior Selection Committee (AICC) on April 25 (Tuesday) announced the senior men's national squad for the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia. 

In what came as a big surprise, veteran batter Ajinkya Rahane returned to the Indian setup and was named in the 15-member squad. 

Rahane performed well with the bat in domestic cricket. He scored 634 runs in seven Ranji Trophy matches. He smashed one fifty and two centuries. 

Rahane has played 82 Test matches for India. He has scored over 5,000 runs with the help of 12 centuries. 

Rahane has scored 729 runs in 15 Test matches in England. he averages 26 with the bat on English soil. 

Ajinkya Rahane led India to a Test series win in 2020-21 in Australia in the absence of Virat Kohli. 

Against Australia, Rahane has scored 1,090 runs in 17 Test matches with the help of two centuries. 

In IPL 2023 so far, Rahane has scored 209 runs in five matches at a strike rate of 199.05.
