Karim Benzema won the Ballon D'or, but who finished behind him?

Karim Benzema has been rewarded for his career-best 2021-22 season with his first Ballon d'Or in a ceremony at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris.

The Real Madrid skipper and France international was the clear winner after scoring 44 goals in 46 matches and earning a fifth European crown in the 2021-22 campaign.

Bayern Munich and Senegal forward Sadio Mane was the runner-up, and he also won the Socrates Award for acts of solidarity.

Manchester City and Belgium's Kevin De Bruyne was third on the list, behind Benzema and Mane.

Polish striker Robert Lewandowski, who was at Bayern Munich before joining Barcelona, came fourth, also winning the Gerd Muller Trophy for top scorer. 

Liverpool and Egypt striker Mohamed Salah came fifth in the final rankings.

Benzema's France teammate and PSG forward Kylian Mbappe was sixth.

Winner of the Yashin Trophy for best goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois of Real Madrid and Belgium finished sixth in the standings.
