Sports Tak Staff
March 10, 2023 There is no doubt that Lionel Messi is among the best footballers in the world after he led Argentina to FIFA World Cup glory.
Hence, his inability to win the Champions League trophy since 2015 (wth Barcelona) is quite astonishing!
Here, we look at Messi and his fall from grace in Europe's biggest competition, first with Barcelona, and now PSG.
It started in 2017, when Barcelona were unable to turn around an away leg 3-0 loss to Juventus.
In 2018, the side blew a 4-1 lead against Roma to lose the second leg 3-0, and the tie on away goals.
In 2019, they gave up a 3-0 first leg lead vs Liverpool to lose 4-0 in the semi-finals.
In 2020, the CL quarters had a different format with just one leg due to Covid, where Barcelona were thrashed 8-2 by Bayern
In 2021, he lost 5-2 vs PSG across two legs in what was eventually his final season for the club.
Joining PSG in the summer, his fate was no different. In 2022, he side blew a 2-0 lead vs Real Madrid to lose 3-2 (across two legs).
Now, in 2023, his side lost 3-0 vs Bayern Munich, once again in the Round of 16 stage of the competition.
