With this goal, he overtook Thiery Henry as the all-time top scorer for France with 52 goals to his score.

Giroud had equalised Henry’s record of 51 goals with a brace in France’s World Cup opener against Australia.

The striker who plays for AC Milan now has one goal more than the Arsenal legend.

He jumped above Henry in style, with a left-footed finish after he was teed up by Kylian Mbappe.

Another record equalled for the French was by their skipper Hugo Lloris for the most-capped male player for France.

The 35-year-old goalkeeper played a record-equalling 142nd international match, equalling Lilian Thuram’s record.

He also matched Thierry Henry and Fabien Barthez for the most World Cup appearances (17) for Les Blues.

France reached the quarterfinal after they brushed aside Poland 3-1 in the Round of 16.
