Cristiano Ronaldo scored his eighth World Cup goal on November 24, each of those coming in the group stage – the most of any player yet to score in the knockout stages.

Pele, Uwe Seeler and Miroslav Klose have all netted at four World Cups, but Ronaldo is now out in front in that regard after scoring at a fifth finals

Portugal ended up winning a nerve-jangling game against Ghana by a margin of 2-1.

For his decisive performance against the African nation, Ronaldo was awarded the Man of the Match award.

It was Ronaldo's seventh Man of the Match award at the FIFA World Cup, which is the most any player has bagged in the history of the tournament.

Former Netherlands forward Arjen Robben bagged six Man of the Match awards at the FIFA World Cups.

Argentina's Lionel Messi has bagged six Man of the Match awards at the FIFA World Cup.

When Portugal takes on Uruguay in their second game of the campaign, Ronaldo will have another chance to add to his tally.

Despite Argentina's shock defeat, Lionel Messi continues to break records.
