Argentine goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez was named the Golden Glove winner of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

His story to glory is one of perseverance, hope and determination.

Martinez left his home country to move to English club Arsenal as a 17-year-old.

During his time with the Gunners, he spent time on loan at lower-league clubs like Sheffield Wednesday and Reading.

During the 2018-19 and 19-20 seasons, Martinez was a bench warmer at his parent club, playing second fiddle to Bernd Leno.

After an injury to Leno in 2020, he got his breakthrough and shone, winning the FA Cup that season.

He eventually earned a move to Aston Villa where he is a starter, and a year later, made his international debut for Argentina.

Martinez also won the Golden Glove in Argentina's Copa America triumph, and his WC performance is another feather on his cap.
