The FIH Men's Hockey World Cup kicks off on Friday, January 13, in Bhubaneswar.

Ahead of the mega event, we take a look at the fastest goal scored at the Hockey World Cup.

Incidentally, this is also the fastest goal in international hockey.

The record is 11 seconds and is shared by Pakistan’s Hanif Khan and New Zealand’s Steve Edwards.

Back in 1984, Hanif scored against the Netherlands in a 2-2 draw at the Champions Trophy in Karachi.

Meanwhile, Edwards scored against South Korea in a 2-1 win at the 2014 World Cup at The Hague.

The faster goal by an Indian in international hockey was scored by Gurjant Singh.

He did so against the Netherlands in just 13 seconds in a 5-2 win at the 2020 Pro Hockey League tie in Bhubaneshwar.
