The Judoko is the latest to have won a silver medal for India in the Judo event of the Commonwealth Games 2022.
However, India almost lost out on this third medal in Judo after the Judo Federation of India was derecognised...
Here's why:
This happened after the JDI President Mukesh Kumar overextended his stay and was construed to have violated the National Sports Development Code

Before the derecognition, the JDI had not selected her weight category of 78kgs for the ongoing multisport event in Birmingham
A special committee oversaw a new round of Judo selections, and trials were held for her category (78kg) in addition to the six weight categories

And now, she has proved her doubters wrong when she won her bout against New Zealand's Sydnee Andrews in the semifinals!
India have done very well in the ongoing Commonwealth Games, with the Judo contingent having already secured three medals.
Vijay won bronze in the 60 kg repechage round category, knocking out Cyprus' Petros Christodoulides.
And India's Shushila Devi secured the silver medal after losing to South Africa's Geronay Whitebooi in the 48kg category final.
