Australia break India's 8-match ODI winning streak... but does history prove this will favour India?

Australia levelled their ongoing series against India with a comprehensive 10-wicket win over the hosts.

In doing so, the five-time ODI champions ended the Men in Blue's eight-ODI winning streak.

This is the fourth time that India's winning streak in ODIs was ended by Australia.

It is also a coincidence that Australia have ended India's eight-match winning streak even 10 years!

But there is a bigger coincidence in play regarding this particular statistic.

Every time Australia ended India's ODI streak, the latter have reached a final!

However, of the previous times, they have won the ensuing tournament only once, i.e in 2013.

Back in 2003, Australia beat India twice — ending their winning streak in the group games and then beating them in the final.

In 2017, India's winnings streak was ended by Australia as the side reached the Champions Trophy final and lost to Pakistan.
