Australians sub-par in powerplays: A look

Australia registered their first win in the 2022 T20 WC as they beat Sri Lanka by seven wickets with 21 balls to spare.

Australia may have won comfortably but the defending champions batted like turtles in the powerplay.

The Aussies batters were underwhelming in the powerplay. They did not hit a single four or six in those six overs.

For the first time in a T20I match, Australia were without fours and sixes in the powerplay.

This is not the first time in the T20 World Cup that a team could not hit a four and a six in the powerplay.

An instance when no boundary was hit in the powerplay by any team in the T20 World Cup has happened twice before.

The first happened in the 2014 World Cup when Pakistan did not find the boundary in the powerplay against the West Indies.

The second time was in the T20 World Cup held in UAE in 2021 by Papua New Guinea against Bangladesh.
