It was a sparkling victory for Ecuador in the first match of the FIFA World Cup, beating hosts Qatar 2-0.

The hero of the match was skipper Enner Valencia, who scored both goals for Ecuador as Qatar were completely dominated.

Valencia is now the highest goalscorer for his country at the mega event, but this will not be his biggest achievement.

The 33-year-old has as many goals as World Cup winners Zinedine Zidane and Geoff Hurst!

His second goal against Qatar was his fifth in World Cup history, having scored thrice during the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

This is as many as France's 1998 winner Zidane, and England striker Geoff Hurst, who won the trophy in 1966.

Valencia could have bagged a hat-trick but his first goal was rightly ruled out for an offside.

It was the perfect start for Ecuador, who next face Netherdul, before playing Senegal in their final group stage match.
