The 2022 FIFA World Cup currently going on in Qatar has been a galore of upsets as expected.
Among these include Saudi Arabia's shock 2-1 win over Argentina, but taking the cake has to be Japan, who topped Group E.
Japan beat Germany 2-1 and after losing 1-0 to Costa Rica, they defeated Spain 2-1 to eliminate the 2014 champions!
Meanwhile, Spain were once again condemned to losing in the Round of 16, in 2018 against Russia and then in 2022 vs Morocco.
This means that since winning the World Cup in 2010, Spain have failed to win a single knockout game!
Same goes for Germany, who have been eliminated at the group stage in 2018 and the 2022 World Cup.
The situation of 2006 champions Italy have fared even worse, having failed to qualify for the knockouts in 2010 and 2014.
The Azzuri have not qualified for the last two FIFA World Cups as well.
But with France showing that the curse of the defending champion is not real, it goes to prove that they have other issues.
