Goncalo Ramos scored a hat-trick to guide Portugal into the World Cup quarter-finals courtesy of a 6-1 demolition of Switzerland.

The 21-year-old was the replacement of superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, who was not at his best in the group stages.

It took Ramos 17 minutes to do what Ronaldo has never done for Portugal; score in a World Cup knockout game.

He is now only the fourth Portuguese player to score a hat-trick at a FIFA World Cup.

The first was Eusebio, who scored four goals against North Korea in the Quarters of the 1966 WC in England.

Then came Pauleta, who bagged his trifecta in a 4-0 win over Poland in the 2002 WC in South Korea and Japan.

In 2018, Ronaldo joined this prestigious list after his hat-trick helped Portugal to a draw against Spain.

Portugal will now face surprise quarterfinalists Morocco in the next stage of competition.
