January 23, 2023 India were eliminated from the Hockey World Cup in the Quarterfinal stage of the competition.
This meant that the side's medal-less run continues from the 1975 World Cup.
Having won Silver at CWG 2022 and Bronze at Tokyo 2020, a lot was expected from this side this time around.
They kicked off their campaign with a comprehensive 2-0 win over Spain.
In the second game, India did not convert their Penalty Corners and were held to a 0-0 draw by England.
They managed to beat Wales 4-2, but this only mean qualification to the crossovers and not the Quarterfinals.
In their crossover game, India dominated New Zealand in the first half but gave up their lead.
They were eventually eliminated from the competition via penalty strokes, breaking the hearts of fans.
India will now face Japan in their 9th-16th classification match on Thursday, January 26.
