England dominated Day 1 of the first Test of Ashes 2023 courtesy of Joe Root's century.

Root’s masterful 118 not out was the 30th ton of his career but his first against the old enemy since 2015.

He had gone three Ashes series and 16 Tests without the ton against Australia prior to this.

His latest Test ton also took his total international centuries to 46.

This means he also crossed David Warner's record of 45 international centuries.

He was unbeaten as skipper Ben Stokes declared England's score at 393/8.

It was also the earliest declaration in Ashes history after just 78 overs of the match.

Currently, Broad struck in the same over to get David Warner and Marnus Labuschagne.
