Germany face a battle of survival when they take on Group E table-toppers Spain.

The Die Mannschaft suffered a shock loss to Japan in their opening match of the FIFA World Cup.

Meanwhile, Spain thrashed Costa Rica 7-0 in a dominant performance.

But their head-to-head record slightly favours the four-time World Champions.

In 25 matches, Germany have won nine games as compared to Spain's eight.

Their last clash at the FIFA World Cup was in the 2010 edition semifinal, which Spain won 1-0.

It was the last of their four World Cup matches.

Germany is also ahead in this record, having won two of these four matches, with the side playing one draw.

Despite Argentina's shock defeat, Lionel Messi continues to break records.
